Kathmandu: The Election Commission has expressed serious concern over media and social media claims that voter list information was accessed through unauthorized entry into its website. In a notice issued on Monday, the commission clarified that no unauthorized person has accessed its website or voter list, and that the voter information system remains fully secure.
“The commission is committed to ensuring the complete security of information that must be kept confidential under the law. Information technology experts associated with the commission are continuously monitoring the system, assessing security risks, and taking all necessary measures to keep the information system secure,” the commission said.
The PDF files circulating on social media as alleged leaks from the Election Commission’s information system contain general information previously provided to election offices and political parties as permitted by law for election purposes. The commission said these files do not include any sensitive or confidential personal details.
The Election Commission has urged all stakeholders not to believe unverified, misleading, or false information being published or shared in this regard.
