837,000 New Voters Added, Nearly 500,000 Registered Through National Identity Cards

Kathmandu: The voter registration process conducted by the Election Commission for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for 5 March, 2026 has been completed. According to the latest data provided by the Commission, a total of 837,094 new voters have been added nationwide during this period.

The Commission had initially set 16 November as the deadline for voter registration. However, due to high demand and requests from stakeholders, the deadline was extended until midnight on 21 November. After the extended deadline expired, the collection process has now stopped.

According to public records, new voter registration was completed through two methods. A total of 344,914 people registered through the traditional biometrics system.

Similarly, 492,180 people registered using national identity card details. This system was introduced on 12 November. The data shows that, in a short period of time, voter registration through national identity cards was significantly higher than through biometrics.
