Kathmandu: Two Nepali youths have performed well and secured the 21st and 22nd positions in the ‘Wiz Cloud Security Championship’, a competition with more than 700 hackers and cloud security engineers from around the world. Anubhav Ratna Dhakal and Ranjan Marasini are participating from Nepal in this global event based on cloud security.
The year-long competition features a new Capture the Flag (CTF) challenge every month based on real security vulnerabilities found in platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes.
Dhakal, 23, is currently participating in the sixth month of the competition and has graduated in cybersecurity from Islington College. Similarly, Ranjan Marasini, 24, is studying for a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity at Forbes College, Chitwan.
Initially ranked below 70, they rose to the top positions after successfully completing what is considered one of the toughest cloud security challenges last month. On the competition’s leaderboard, Dhakal is competing under the name ‘Expert Xerox’, while Marasini is competing under the name ‘Noob Injected’.
Another Nepali participant, Ushpal Phuyal (Bhugate0), is ranked 63rd, while Vidisha Subedi is ranked 270th.
The competition is considered highly challenging as it requires strong cloud security skills and deep domain knowledge. Dhakal said that only two participants from Nepal joined through an official invitation and selection process.
“We are the only two Nepalis participating through special invitation,” Dhakal told TechPana. “Anyone can still join the competition.” As of the time TechPana was preparing this news, four Nepalis had registered. Interested cybersecurity learners can click here to participate.
Winners of the competition organized by Wiz Company receive a championship belt and attractive prizes similar to WWE. In addition, top performers also receive job opportunities at Wiz Company, which has headquarters in Israel and the United States. Due to his strong performance, Anubhav Ratna Dhakal has already been contracted by the company and is working remotely from Nepal.
The competition began in June 2025 and will run until May 2026. They said they aim to finish in the top 10 by delivering even better results in the coming months.
