3,800 EVs Worth Rs 9 Billion Imported in Five Months, Rs 5.5 Billion Collected in Revenue

Kathmandu: Electric vehicles (EVs) worth around Rs 9 billion have been imported into Nepal in the last five months. A total of 3,800 EVs entered the country during the first five months of the current fiscal year, from Shrawan to Mangsir.

According to data released by the Customs Department on Monday, 3,798 EVs of various motor capacities were imported into Nepal by mid-Mangsir. The total value of these vehicles stood at Rs 8.95 billion. From these imports, the government collected Rs 5.56 billion in revenue.

EVs imported into Nepal have been categorized into four groups based on motor capacity. Data shows that EVs with a capacity of 51 to 100 kilowatts were imported the most during this period. A total of 2,164 EVs in this category entered the country in five months.

The customs value of EVs in the 51 to 100 kilowatt segment was Rs 5.6 billion. EVs with a capacity of up to 50 kilowatts ranked second. During the same period, 1,215 EVs in this category were imported, with a total value of Rs 2.7 billion.

Statistics show that 414 EVs with a motor capacity of 101 to 200 kilowatts were imported in five months. The total value of these vehicles was Rs 2.23 billion.

EVs with a capacity of more than 300 kilowatts recorded the lowest imports. Only five EVs in this category entered Nepal during the five-month period. Their total value was Rs 35 million.
