NRB Governor Urges Nepali Youth To Target Global IT Market With Confidence

Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Bishwa Poudel has said that necessary policy facilitation has been provided for the development of the IT sector in the country. Posting on social media, he said that Nepali youth can now work on products targeting the global market with confidence.

Stating that Nepal’s IT sector has worked hard over the past few years, he also discussed facilitation provided by the Ministry of Finance. He said, “As a partial result of reforms such as facilitating the opening of companies, revising the limit on foreign direct investment (FDI), and making tax rates reliable, about 40 IT companies were opened with foreign investment two years ago, while about 400 companies were opened a year ago.”

He said, “After the arrival of the NRB, Nepali exporting companies have been allowed to invest up to $1 million abroad, while companies that are not currently exporting have been allowed to invest up to $20,000. I would also like to assure everyone that these limits will be revised based on the results. In a context where foreign investors have complained about excessive paperwork, it has been decided that it is not necessary to obtain the NRB’s approval to take profits.”

The Governor said that these initiatives, in a country that banned foreign investment in 2021, are far-reaching in nature. He added, “Now, I request the youth: Come up with new products with confidence. Set your eyes on the global market. Spread your wings, work hard, the world will be yours to conquer from Nepal. The banking sector will always support your expansion.”
