Kathmandu: Mobile service provider Ncell installed and brought into operation 250 new towers across the country last year to strengthen the quality of its 4G network. The company also expanded the capacity of 2,200 existing sites, improving voice quality and high-speed data services.
Stating that connectivity is not only a means of communication but also a foundation for security, education, business, and staying connected with loved ones, Ncell said it has prioritized the expansion and strengthening of its 4G network.
The new towers have been installed in various local levels across all seven provinces. Ncell said it accelerated tower installation and capacity expansion to improve service quality, particularly in Madhesh, Lumbini, Koshi, and Bagmati provinces.
Under Karnali Province, Ncell launched 4G services by installing towers in local levels including Sabhapokhari in Dailekh, Purtimkanda in Rukum West, and Bagchaur in Salyan.
Similarly, new towers have come into operation in Ladagada of Doti, Banjariya of Kailali, and Saraswati Tole of Kanchanpur in Sudurpaschim Province. Services have also expanded to dozens of locations in Madhesh Province, including Hanumannagar in Siraha, Bhimpur in Saptari, and Musaharniya in Dhanusha.
Out of the total 250 new towers, 197 were installed in the last two and a half months alone. Despite challenges in equipment imports, the company said it brought 53 towers into operation by maximizing the use of existing stock and spare equipment. Installation work gained further momentum after the Nepal Telecommunication Authority eased bottlenecks related to equipment imports.
Ncell Chief Consumer Business Officer Upang Dutta said the expansion has made mobile broadband and quality voice services more accessible at the local level. “The new towers and capacity-enhanced sites across the country have improved access to mobile broadband and voice services. This expansion will make communication, business, and education more convenient for customers,” he said.
According to Ncell, the highest number of new towers, more than 100, were added in Madhesh Province. Around 40 towers were installed in Lumbini Province and more than 35 in Koshi Province. Additional towers were also installed in Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces based on demand.
Ncell, which launched 4G services in 2074, has now expanded coverage to all 77 districts. The company said its 4G network now reaches more than 95 percent of Nepal’s population. The expansion is expected to further strengthen digital connectivity nationwide.
