Using An NTC SIM In Someone Else’s Name? Here’s How To Transfer It Online

Kathmandu: Nepal Telecom has launched an online facility for GSM prepaid SIM users to update their customer details (KYC). Through this service, users can initiate the process to transfer a SIM card registered in someone else’s name into their own name.

At present, SIM cards registered in a user’s own name are mandatory for opening bank accounts, creating digital wallets, and completing various government and financial transactions. Because of this requirement, SIM cards registered under another person’s name must be transferred.

Previously, customers were required to visit a Nepal Telecom office in person and fill out forms to transfer SIM ownership. Now, the process can be started online from home. However, a one-time visit to the telecom office is still mandatory for final verification. Nepal Telecom says submitting details online saves time at the office and speeds up the overall process.

Currently, this service is available only at Nepal Telecom offices in Babarmahal and Sundhara, Kathmandu. The company plans to expand the service to other branch offices across the country in the coming days.

How To Transfer A SIM Registered In Someone Else’s Name Online

  • First, open the Nepal Telecom customer portal and click on the SIM transfer option.

  • Enter your mobile number and tap on “Send OTP Code.”

  • Type the captcha shown on the screen and tap on “Verify & Send OTP.”

  • Enter the OTP received on your phone and tap on “Verify & Login.”

Once logged in, the customer portal will open. Fill in your personal details as requested.

Next, enter five phone numbers that you have called within the last three days. After this, select a counter for verification. At present, only Sundhara and Babarmahal counters are available. You will also need to enter your permanent and temporary address details.

In the document upload section, upload a photo of your citizenship certificate or passport. In the second document option, upload a document proving that the SIM belongs to you. Uploading this second document is optional.

After completing the form, tap “Next” and take a live photo of yourself holding your citizenship certificate or passport using your camera.

Carefully review all the details. If everything is correct, tap on “Submit Application.”

After submission, visit the counter you selected earlier for verification. According to Nepal Telecom spokesperson Ravindra Manandhar, the SIM ownership is transferred immediately after office staff verify the call records, documents, and other details provided by the customer.
