Kathmandu: The leader of the 'Nepali for Nepal' (NFN) group, which has carried out multiple cyber attacks on government and non-government websites, has announced plans to surrender. In a statement on its Telegram channel on Monday, the group said it will surrender at a press conference in Kathmandu at 4 pm on Wednesday, January 14.
The group has been active since the ‘Gen-Z Rebellion’ on 8 and 9 September. It claimed responsibility for hacking several government websites and deleting data in protest against the interim government and in support of controversial medical practitioner Durga Prasai.
Known for its slogan “Research, Revolution, and Reform,” the group hacked websites of key institutions including theElection Commission, Nepal Electricity Authority, National Identity Card and Registration Department, and the AttorneyGeneral’s Office. Data and videos from these hacks were made public.

Two Members Already Arrested
The Cyber Bureau has arrested two individuals linked to the group using mobile numbers from its Telegram channel. The arrested members are Santosh Chimaria, 20, and Bikash Poudel, 19, both from Jhapa.
Chimaria was arrested in Kathmandu on December 14, and Poudel was arrested in Sankhuwasabha 20 days later. TheDistrict Attorney’s Office, Kathmandu, filed a charge sheet against them in Kathmandu District Court on January 7. Following these arrests, the NFN leader decided to voluntarily surrender.

What ‘Nepali for Nepal’ Says
In its statement, the group described itself as an independent citizen initiative committed to democracy, good governance, and civil rights. It said, “We have not done anything against the sovereignty and national integrity of Nepal. Our activities are transparent, and we do not want to hide the facts.”
The group said it would hold a press conference to present evidence and arguments to the public. “We have taken this step with the belief that speaking the truth is not a crime,” it said, emphasizing its trust in the rule of law and a fair judicial process.
Meanwhile, the Cyber Bureau continues to investigate the group for allegedly compromising national security and privacy by gaining unauthorized access to government data systems.
