Driving License to Be Issued Within 24 Hours After Trial Pass and Revenue Payment

Kathmandu. The government has introduced a new system from today (Friday) under which driving licenses will be issued within 24 hours after applicants pass the trial and pay the revenue.

During an inspection of the Security Printing Center in Panauti, Kavre, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Bikram Timilsina said the service had come into effect from today.

Minister Timilsina said the government is committed to ending the long-standing delay in license distribution and aims to clear all pending licenses by mid-July. “From now on, no work will be delayed unnecessarily, and service recipients will receive services promptly. The long wait for licenses has now come to an end,” he said. During the inspection, he emphasized the need to develop the Security Printing Center into an effective and capable institution. Referring to the past delays caused by weak management and lack of commitment, Minister Timilsina stated that those issues will now be addressed.

He also noted that equipment worth  billions of rupees had remained unused for years, adding that efforts have now begun to bring them into operation.

Minister Timilsina further instructed officials to prioritize citizens’ data security and deliver more citizen-friendly services. He said the ministry is  committed to resolving complaints related to public service delivery as quickly as possible. He added that expanding access to quality internet and mobile services nationwide is also a key priority, with a target of ensuring all citizens have access to technology within the next year.

Executive director of the center, Devraj Dhungana, said long-term plans are being prepared to strengthen the institution. In the future, the center aims to build capacity to print important documents such as passports, cheque books, smart cards, postage stamps, and revenue stickers.

At present, the center is printing around 40,000 licenses per day. Priority has been given to licenses required  by citizens going abroad. According to Dhungana, the target is to print 1.2 million licenses by April 25 and clear the remaining 1.7 million by mid-July.
