Kathmandu. The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has joined the professional networking platform LinkedIn, aiming to better organize and expand the flow of government information. The office officially launched its LinkedIn page on Wednesday.
In a statement announcing the launch, the office said that as the central coordinating body of the executive branch of the Government of Nepal, OPMCM works with various ministries to ensure policy coordination, accelerate service delivery, and support the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers in serving the public interest. It added that the page aims to connect with citizens, partners, and institutions engaged in Nepal’s development.
In recent months, the Prime Minister’s Office has been prioritizing digital communication channels. At present, its Facebook page remains the most active platform for sharing government decisions and official updates. However, its accounts on X, TikTok, and Instagram remain largely inactive.
Following the general election held on March 5, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) secured a majority by winning 182 seats out of 275 in Parliament, after which senior party leader Balendra Shah (Balen) was appointed Prime Minister. Soon after his appointment, congratulatory messages from leaders of various countries were shared through the office’s X account. Since then, no major updates have been posted on the platform.
During the interim government led by Sushila Karki, government social media accounts remained largely inactive. In contrast, the current government appears to be making greater use of digital communication platforms. However, the Prime Minister’s Office is still largely absent from youth-focused platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.
