CAN Federation Opens Applications for UA Hackathon Nepal 2026

Kathmandu. The Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) Federation has opened applications for ‘UA Hackathon Nepal 2026,’ to be held on the occasion of the Global campaign for Universal Acceptance (UA) and National Information and Communication Technology Day 2026.

Organized under the theme ‘UA Adaptation and Hackathon Nepal 2026: Pioneering UA Ready Platform,’ the event places strong emphasis on developing internet systems that support the Nepali language and script.

The hackathon aims to promote an inclusive and multilingual internet, in collaboration with international organizations including ICANN, UNESCO, APNIC, and Sunway College Kathmandu. The initiative seeks to address the current dominance of English online by enabling the use of Nepali and other local languages in emails, websites, and digital platforms.

Developers, students, and tech enthusiasts can apply for participation until April 30, 2026. The main event will begin on May 16, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. in Kathmandu and will be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing both physical and online participation.

Interested individuals can register through the CAN Federation’s official Nepali portal. Additional details are available on https://क्यान.संगठन/.

CANN previously launched Nepal’s first Nepali-language website under the Universal Acceptance (UA) program, which has been presented as Nepal’s first Internationalized Domain Name (IDN).

Through the hackathon, participants will develop multilingual and UA-ready digital solutions, aiming to make the internet more accessible and innovative for users in local languages.
