Kathmandu. Investment Board Nepal Chief Executive Officer Sushil Gyewali has called for greater investment in digital innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), and green technology, saying Nepal has the potential to emerge as an attractive destination for such sectors.
Addressing the Nepal-EU Tech Forum 2026 virtually on Monday, an event organized by the Embassy of Nepal in Brussels, Gyewali said cooperation between Nepal and the European Union should expand beyond traditional development partnership toward strategic digital collaboration.
He noted that the global economy is being reshaped by rapid digital transformation, advances in AI, and growing demand for computing capacity. According to him, future economic strength will increasingly depend on the combination of technology, energy, and skilled human capital.
CEO Gyewali said the government has placed the digital economy at the center of its policy reforms and is introducing measures to improve Nepal’s investment circle.
He added that restrictions on foreign investment have been eased, while ownership and business operation procedures in the IT and digital services sectors have been simplified. Highlighting the changing energy needs driven by AI expansion, Gyewali said Nepal’s existing energy system offers a favorable environment for data centers, cloud computing, and AI infrastructure.
He also said the Investment Board is simultaneously advancing digital infrastructure, regulatory reforms, and human resource development. Projects such as data centers, IT parks, and digital hubs have been given priority, he added.
CEO Gyewali urged hyperscale data center operators, AI computing firms, cloud infrastructure providers, and technology companies to consider Nepal as a strategic investment destination.
