Kathmandu. Pathao Nepal Managing Director Asheem Man Singh Basnyat has stepped down after completing his eight-year tenure with the company.
Pathao Nepal, which began operations in 2018, is widely credited with introducing and popularising ride-sharing services in the country, helping establish a new urban mobility culture in Nepal.
Although the reason for Basnyat’s resignation has not been officially disclosed, he told TechPana in a brief conversation that he had always planned to step down after eight years of service, and has now fulfilled that commitment.
During its early years, the company operated under challenging conditions, including regulatory uncertainty, limited infrastructure, and initial public distrust toward ride-sharing services. Under Basnyat’s leadership, Pathao expanded its operations and contributed to shaping the economy of Nepal by providing income opportunities to thousands of driver partners.
Currently, Pathao Nepal operates throughout the Kathmandu Valley and all seven provinces, offering services nationwide.
In recent years, the company has diversified its offerings beyond ride-hailing, evolving into a multi-service digital platform. Its services now include intercity transport booking, long-distance vehicle services, food delivery, parcel logistics, and marketplace solutions.
