“Angels Remembered” Facebook Page Circulates Fake Death Tributes of Living Nepali Celebrities

Kathmandu. A Facebook page named “Angels Remembered,” with over 73,000 followers, has been found spreading misleading “tribute” posts about well-known Nepali personalities, falsely implying that several living figures have passed away in an apparent attempt to gain engagement on social media.

According to the page’s transparency history, it was originally created in 2019 under the name “Khabari Online” and has since changed its name five times. The page is currently shown as being operated from the United States and has been posting such content since May 11.

The page uses edited “tribute-style” images featuring “Rest in Peace” text, often presenting one person’s photograph with another individual’s name, creating confusion among users and making the posts appear credible.

Among those falsely reported dead were actors Rajesh Hamal, Prakash Saput, Samragyee Rajya Laxmi Shah, Richa Sharma, Swastima Khadka, and social activist Anuradha Koirala. In several cases, incorrect captions were paired with unrelated images.

Following one such misleading post, Maiti Nepal issued a clarification after misinformation spread about its founder Anuradha Koirala. In a statement shared on its official Facebook page, the organization said, “Maiti Nepal expresses heartfelt gratitude for the numerous calls, messages, good wishes, and goodwill received expressing concern about Ms. Anuradha Koirala’s health condition. We apologize for the stress and uncertainty caused by this misleading information and express our sincere thanks for your continued trust, support, and cooperation.”

Similarly, actress Richa Sharma responded to a false post about her death, commenting, “Hello guys, I am alive, thank you.”

Authorities and fact-checkers have warned that such posts can quickly mislead users when shared without verification. The TechPana FactCheck Desk has urged the public to verify information from official and credible media sources before sharing or reacting to such content.
