Government Orders Action Against 38 Platforms Over Illegal FIFA World Cup Streaming

Kathmandu. The government has initiated action to block 38 mobile applications and websites accused of illegally live-streaming FIFA World Cup 2026 matches, following a request from the tournament's exclusive broadcaster in Nepal. 

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has directed the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) to take necessary measures after receiving a letter from S Pro Media Pvt. Ltd., the company holding the official broadcasting rights for the FIFA World Cup in Nepal.

In a letter to the ministry, S Pro Media Chairman Som Dhital requested action against platforms allegedly facilitating unauthorized broadcasts of World Cup matches. The company argued that the platforms were violating copyright and broadcasting rights agreements.

Acting on the request, the NTA has coordinated with internet service providers and mobile network operators to begin restricting access to 38 identified platforms, including mobile applications and websites suspected of distributing live match feeds without authorization.
