Kathmandu. Police have confiscated 14 used iPhones worth an estimated Rs 700,000 from a passenger bus at the Nagdhunga checkpoint, a major entry point into Kathmandu Valley.
According to the District Police Office, Kathmandu, the mobile phones were recovered at around 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday during a routine vehicle inspection in Chandragiri Municipality-2.
The devices were found after police searched a passenger bus (Lu 2 Kha 6566) traveling from Butwal to Kathmandu on suspicion of carrying illegal goods. A joint team deployed from the Nagdhunga Police Station discovered the phones concealed inside a black bag placed near the driver's seat.
Police said no bills or proof of purchase were found for the seized devices.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kathmandu, all of the confiscated phones were used iPhones.
The seized devices have been handed over to the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office for further investigation and legal proceedings, police said.
