Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has removed illegal black-tinted films from vehicles used by Home Minister Sudan Gurung and Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha, citing violations of the Vehicle and Transportation Management Act, 2049.
Traffic police began the enforcement campaign on Sunday and removed the tints from the officials’ vehicles on Monday, according to the office spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi.
“Section 39 of the Vehicle and Transportation Management Act and related regulations prohibit vehicle owners from altering a vehicle’s color, seat capacity, design, engine, chassis (vehicle frame), or other specifications without approval from the authorized authority,” DSP Subedi told TechPana. “Since black-tinted glass installed without permission is illegal, we have started removing such tints from vehicles.”
Subedi said opaque windows could facilitate unlawful activities by preventing outsiders from seeing inside a vehicle. “There is a possibility of violence, harboring fugitives, and other criminal activities inside vehicles with heavily tinted windows,” he said.
The traffic police have launched a valley-wide campaign to remove unauthorized black tints and other illegal modifications from all categories of vehicles.
