Kathmandu: Ritu Singh Vaidya is a well-known figure in Nepal’s automobile and heavy equipment industry. As the Managing Director of Vaidya’s Organization of Industries and Trading House (VOITH), her day typically starts early in the morning.
She personally designed her office, favoring minimalism with light grays and whites, which she finds help create a calm and productive environment. Her personal discipline and time management, traits she adopted from the military, are integral to her daily routine.
Workplace Management and Professionalism
Vaidya maintains a clean and well-organized workspace. Papers rarely stay on her desk for long, and only tasks that require immediate or next-day attention are visible. She dislikes leaving tasks pending and follows the principle: if something can be done today, do it today.
Professionally, she is often described as a “black and white” personality, someone decisive and clear, which she believes helps in making sound business decisions and recognizing both strengths and weaknesses.
VOITH operates a showroom for Toyota vehicles, which is currently being revamped in line with Toyota’s new branding guidelines. Previously featuring red and brown, the showroom will now reflect a more refined palette of beige and white.
Apart from the vehicle business, Vaidya also leads VOITH’s heavy equipment division. This division supplies machinery for road construction, excavation, and foundation work. A current project, ‘Road Head,’ uses advanced tunnel-drilling machines, an upgrade from older blasting methods.
According to her, these machines are essential for constructing roads, tunnels, bridges, and buildings, and play a critical role in Nepal’s infrastructure development. While the market is highly competitive, she notes that demand remains high as Nepal continues to grow.
Shark Tank Nepal Experience
Ritu Singh Vaidya describes her experience on Shark Tank Nepal as incredible. She’s inspired by the ideas and drive of participants, ranging from 17-year-olds to senior citizens. She believes curiosity and a strong desire to succeed are shared traits among entrepreneurs.
Her primary motivation for investing through Shark Tank is to keep talented youth in Nepal. “I want to invest money so they don’t have to go abroad,” she says. For Vaidya, execution matters more than the idea itself.
She points out that most entrepreneurs appearing on the show have been running their businesses for one to two years, proof of their commitment. She believes that with the right support, mentorship, and funding, one entrepreneur can create opportunities for hundreds. Her goal is to trigger a chain effect.
New Organization in the Auto Sector
According to Vaidya, the idea of forming the Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) had been under discussion for the last four to five years. The existing industry body NADA, although considered the backbone of Nepal’s auto sector, could not represent all stakeholders.
NAIMA aims to work on policy issues, customer awareness, innovation, training, and the development of skilled manpower for both importers and manufacturers. She says the organization will also help control the gray market and streamline spare parts management.
Suryans Vaidya's Startups
Ritu Singh Vaidya’s son, Suryans Vaidya, has launched a startup called Pit Stop, which operates under the VOITH umbrella. Pit Stop is a boutique automobile workshop offering high-end modifications and detailing services.
She expresses pride in her son’s venture, especially in the lab where the vehicle transformations take place. Suryans aims to offer customers limitless options in all services related to mobility.
Personal Life and Passion for Art
Although she once came from a Miss India and modeling background, Ritu Singh Vaidya says she has moved far beyond that chapter of her life.
She has a deep appreciation for art and used to paint. She enjoys observing and understanding different forms of art. Her company maintains a tradition, started by her father-in-law, where employees wear Nepali attire every Thursday. She personally loves wearing sarees and emphasizes the importance of preserving traditional clothing culture.
With her involvement in Shark Tank and other new responsibilities, Vaidya’s schedule has become even busier. She takes online criticism in stride. “You have to do your best and keep your intentions pure. If people misunderstand that, it’s their problem,” she says.
Ritu Singh Vaidya's leadership, vision, and dedication to empowering young entrepreneurs serve as an important example for Nepal’s business community. Her commitment to innovation and growth continues to contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic progress.
