Kathmandu: YouTube channels that complete the required process can now be listed with the Press Council. The Council announced this in a press release issued Sunday.
“A YouTube channel operated by a journalist for journalistic purposes may be registered with the Council upon fulfilling the criteria outlined in Section 4(2) of the YouTube Management, Listing and Archiving Procedure, 2080,” the release stated.
The Council confirmed this provision has been implemented under the same procedure. As part of its effort to regulate online content, the Council reported that in the fiscal year 2081/82, it issued warnings or directives to 28 YouTube channels, 29 Facebook pages, and 7 media-affiliated web portals for promoting violence, spreading hatred, or publishing unverified, misleading, and rumor-based content.
The statement also noted that 43 YouTube channels have received letters for further investigation. These channels are accused of misleading the public with exaggerated, rumor-based thumbnails, spreading fear and obscenity, defying Council directives, sharing false information, and operating without official registration.
