Sharmila Waiba arrested from Pokhara on charges of defaming a woman on social media

Kathmandu: Sharmila Waiba, who claims to be a social activist, has been arrested. Waiba was taken into custody from Lakeside, Pokhara, on Tuesday on charges of violating the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063.
DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Kaski, confirmed that Waiba was arrested at the request of the Cyber Bureau. “We arrested Waiba from Lakeside today on charges under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063,” DSP Basnet said. “She has been taken to Kathmandu.”
According to Cyber Bureau spokesperson Deepak Raj Awasthi, Waiba was arrested after a woman filed a complaint alleging that she had been defamed on social media.
