Kathmandu: Internet of Things (IoT) devices which provide immediate alerts about incidents and accidents, have been installed in Simaltal, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29, Chitwan district, and Charaudi, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7, Dhading district. The Armed Police Force Nepal, in collaboration with Luna GPS, selected these two high-risk locations and installed the devices a few days ago.
In case of an accident, the device will immediately send information to the Armed Police Force’s Nepal Disaster Management Training School in Kurintar. Local residents or anyone with information must press the green button on the device for 10 seconds to report an incident. Once pressed, the siren at the Disaster Management Training School in Kurintar will sound, and the location and other details will appear on the monitor.
As soon as the location is identified through the alert system, rescue teams will be mobilized immediately. The Kurintar Training School has informed local residents in both areas about the use of the device and has also provided training.
Similarly, local residents from Narayanghat to Nagdhunga, disaster-affected individuals in the area, and eyewitnesses can use the Luna GPS mobile app to report incidents. When using the app, one can click on the SOS button and select from options such as ambulance, flood, landslide, fire, or accident.
Once an option is selected, the Disaster Management Training School in Kurintar will receive detailed information about the type of incident and the identity of the person reporting it. The app can also be downloaded and used offline.
The mobile app, designed for the area between Narayanghat and Nagdhunga, is expected to support immediate rescue operations during disaster incidents. It is also believed to enhance the effectiveness of emergency response and relief efforts by ordinary citizens.
