Driving License Feature Disappears from Nagarik App After Transport Server Burned in Gen-Z Protest

Kathmandu: The driver’s license feature has been removed from the Nagarik app. Until recently, the app provided a dedicated option for digital licenses.
Through this feature, drivers could present their license to traffic police using a QR code. Police could check past violations and verify whether fines had been paid. Now, that option has disappeared.
The disruption follows the Gen-Z protests on 8 and 9 September, when demonstrators vandalized and set fire to the Department of Transport Management building in Minbhawan. The arson destroyed the central server along with all related records and equipment. With the server gone, the driver’s license feature in the Nagarik app also stopped functioning.
The destroyed server housed all transport-related data and powered the ‘EDLVRS System.’ As the system is no longer operational, transport offices nationwide have suspended services until further notice.
Because the Nagarik app was directly linked to this system, the license option had to be removed once the main server was lost.
