Kathmandu: UML central member Usha Kiran Timsena has alleged that misogynistic and obscene comments are being made against women within the party. In a Facebook post on Wednesday, she claimed that those responsible are considered “good position holders” in the party’s mass organizations.
“I have seen misogynistic and obscene comments made by good position holders of UML’s mass organizations. No one should write such things to your sisters, daughters, or relatives. Action should be taken if they do,” Timsena wrote.
She challenged those who disagreed with her to respond in a civilized and political language, saying she was ready for a one-on-one debate. She also urged those who believe action should be taken to file a petition with the party’s Disciplinary Commission and Organization Department, pledging to stand by her words.
Timsena stressed that people should not say to others what they would not say to their own sisters.
The leader has been openly critical of party chairman KP Sharma Oli in recent months. She was suspended from her central member post for six months for holding different opinions inside the party. Timsena and others have demanded Oli’s resignation, accusing him of misusing his power during the recent Gen-Z movement.
She said she has faced obscene and misogynistic comments from Oli’s staunch supporters while advocating for democracy and women’s rights inside the party.
Responding to critics who questioned the legitimacy of her entry into the UML, Timsena argued that she did not join politics for position or prestige. “I did not become a central member by buying someone a car, nor did I enter politics after succeeding in other professions seeking position and prestige,” she wrote.
