UML Chairman Oli And Jyoti Magar ‘Kissing’ Photo Is Fake, Created Using AI

Kathmandu: A photo showing a so-called “kiss” between CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and folk singer Jyoti Magar has gone viral on social media. However, the image is fake and has been created by misusing artificial intelligence (AI).

Jyoti Magar visited the venue of the 11th National Convention of CPN-UML at Bhrikutimandap on Tuesday and Wednesday. During her visit, she sought votes for UML central member candidates, including Purna Bahadur Gurung and Kiran Gurung. She also met and spoke briefly with Chairman Oli at the venue.

Photos and videos from that interaction were normal and showed a casual conversation. However, those visuals were later distorted and circulated on social media in a misleading manner.

Some social media users believed the manipulated image and formed negative opinions about both Oli and Magar. According to an analysis by the TechPana fact-checking team, the viral image contains clear visual anomalies. The faces of Oli and Magar appear to have been artificially combined, creating an unnatural scene. In the original footage, there is no physical intimacy. They are simply talking.

In recent times, the misuse of AI and deepfake technology to target politicians and artists has increased. Media experts and stakeholders have warned that such content can damage personal reputations and mislead the public. They have urged social media users to verify sensitive and sensational content before trusting or sharing it.
