Cyber Bureau Moves to Remove Fake PM Sushila Karki Accounts

Kathmandu: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has written to the Cyber Bureau requesting the removal of fake social media accounts created by misusing the name and photo of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. The office took action after several accounts with millions of followers appeared online impersonating the Prime Minister.

Speaking to TechPana, Joint Secretary Subash Dhakal, who heads the Information Technology Division at the Prime Minister’s Office, said the Cyber Bureau is working to identify and remove all fake accounts operating under the Prime Minister’s name. “We had already written to the Cyber Bureau before Dashain to delete many fake social media accounts,” Dhakal said. “Some accounts with millions of followers have already been removed, while others are still in the process.”

He added that the process of verifying the Prime Minister’s official social media accounts has also begun. The official X handle of Prime Minister Karki now carries a gray verification mark, while her Facebook and Instagram accounts are marked with a blue check.
