Kathmandu: Nepal Telecom’s 4G service has now reached Tilicho Base Camp in Manang. On Friday, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel and Field Engineer Neeraj Gupta officially launched the 4G service through a live video call.
With the launch of 4G service in Tilicho, communication has become easier for both locals and trekkers. Tilicho is one of Nepal’s most popular trekking destinations, where trekkers often face health risks such as altitude sickness. The availability of 4G connectivity is expected to help in faster rescue and coordination during medical emergencies.
Minister Kharel thanked Nepal Telecom for working toward expanding communication access in remote parts of the country. Engineer Gupta said that digital payments have already begun in the Tilicho area, and that the new 4G network will make online transactions and connectivity more reliable, solving problems caused by weak signals in the past.
Nepal Telecom has been rapidly expanding its 2G and 4G services across remote areas of Manang district. The company also launched 4G services in Talkot Rural Municipality-Bungadanda of Bajhang on Thursday.
Previously, Telecom was providing only 2G services through V-SAT technology in Pisang (Ward 1), Bal (Ward 3), Tanki Manang (Ward 8), and Khangsar (Ward 9) of Manang Ngisyang Rural Municipality. Since the area is significant for tourism and local businesses, and 2G via V-SAT could not meet the growing demand, Telecom introduced 4G service in these locations starting 20 September.
