Corruption in Purchase of School Computers Worth Rs 700,000, CIAA Files Case Against Three

Kathmandu: Corruption has been uncovered in the purchase of computers worth around Rs 700,000 for a school in Syangja. It has been revealed that the equipment purchased under the Information and Technology (ICT) program budget was not used in the school.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption case against three individuals in the Special Court on Sunday, accusing them of committing irregularities by preparing fake procurement reports.

According to the CIAA, Shishu Kalyan Secondary School in Galyang-4, Syangja, had received Rs 674,045 under the ICT program. With that amount, the school purchased seven desktop computers, one laptop, one projector, and one printer.

However, it is alleged that two of those devices, one projector and one printe, were taken elsewhere without being delivered to the school. The CIAA stated that the accused embezzled about Rs 217,000 by preparing fake procurement documents.

The then chairman of the school management committee, Ram Thapa, principal Ravilal Luintel, and accountant Chhabilal Gaha have been named as defendants in the case. The CIAA has filed a case against all three in the Special Court, recommending a fine of Rs 471,000 each.
