Kathmandu: The CPN-UML is going to use electronic voting machines to select its leadership in the upcoming 11th national convention. The UML is going to use electronic machines again to make the election process of the general convention to be held from 13 to 15 December faster and smoother.
UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali informed that voting machines are going to be used to complete the voting process in a systematic and speedy manner. “We are moving forward with the voting process through electronic machines in the general convention. This will make the process faster and smoother,” Gyawali said. “Quotations have been sought to select the service provider company and will be finalized in a few days.”
Considering the number of about 2,270 delegates participating in the general convention, the UML has stated that about 100 electronic voting machines are required. It is estimated that it will take about 20 minutes for one delegate to vote.
The general convention will elect a 251-member central committee including 15 office bearers.
Earlier, the UML had used electronic voting machines in the 10th general convention held in 2021. At that time, a machine manufactured in Nepal by Ram-Lakshman Innovation was used at a cost of Rs 5 million. UML sources said that the same company is likely to provide the service this time too. It is said that the details of the expenses incurred for voting will be confirmed only after an agreement is reached with the company.
