Kathmandu. Following a police directive prohibiting mediators in government offices, digital wallets Khalti and eSewa have suspended their Bluebook renewal services. Both companies have issued notices stating that the service is unavailable.
Khalti and eSewa had been offering Bluebook renewal along with pickup and drop-off services for the past few years. The companies stated that the suspension is due to a lack of clarity regarding the directive.
A representative of an e-Wallet told TechPana that customers had responded positively to the Blue Book renewal and home pickup and drop-off services. However, he said they are seeking clarity from the government before resuming operations.
“We introduced this service to provide ease and assistance to customers, not to create any problems or inconvenience,” he said. “However, due to the lack of clarity, we do not want to put our employees at risk. Our service is different from that of ‘mediators’, but we have decided to suspend the service until there is clarity on this matter.”
