20-Year-Old Arrested in Kathmandu for Online Death Threats Against Prime Minister and Home Minister

Kathmandu. A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Kathmandu for issuing death threats against the Prime Minister and Home Minister through social media. The suspect, identified as Sajan Bista, also known as Sanu Bhai, from Sinamangal, Kathmandu, was taken into custody by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office. He is originally from Mayal, Ward No. 4 of Thalara Rural Municipality in Bajhang District.
According to the police, Bista had been posting a series of threatening messages and videos from a Facebook account named ‘Sanu Bhai.’in his posts, he reportedly demanded the release of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and former Minister Deepak Khadka, warning that if his demands were not met, his group equipped with modern weapons such as AK-47 rifles would “be compelled to shoot” the current Prime Minister and Home Minister.
Police further stated that Bista had been living in Bangalore, India for the past five years, where he worked at a retail store on MG Road. Officials said he was allegedly involved in various criminal activities during his stay in India.
Deputy Superintendent of Police and information officer Rameshwar Karki said Bista had repeatedly used social media to threaten high-ranking government officials, creating fear and spreading misinformation.
Bista, arrested on April 18, has been sent to the Cyber Bureau in Bhotahiti for further investigation. He is being charged under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063, police confirmed.
