Kathmandu. The official Facebook page of former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has gone missing since Sunday, leaving him and his secretariat uncertain about the cause. The page, which had over 1.5 million followers, is no longer visible on the platform.
In recent times, there have been increasing complaints of Facebook suspending accounts and pages of users posting content related to Nepal’s new map and issues concerning Limpiyadhura. This led to speculation that Bhattaarai’s page may have been affected for similar reasons. However, he rejected this possibility, stating that he had not posted any content related to Limpiyadhura.
Known for his active presence on social media, Dr. Bhattarai regularly shares views on the national political and social issues. Following the disappearance of his page, his technical team is attempting to restore access, according to his secretariat.
At present, the page is not searchable on Facebook, and existing links are also inactive. It remains unclear whether the issue is technical or related to platform policy enforcement.
Earlier, in February 2025, his Facebook page was reportedly hacked, while in July 2023, a Facebook glitch caused old post comments to appear incorrectly under his name.
Social media experts note that high-profile political accounts are often targeted through phishing, password attacks, or social engineering. In some cases, accounts may also be temporarily suspended due to mass reporting, spam detection, or alleged violations of community standards, particularly when political content is involved.
