Kathmandu. Global ride-hailing platform, Uber is reportedly making preparations to enter the Nepali market, with early signs of system onboarding for both drivers and passengers already visible.
Although the company has not formally launched operations in Nepal, it has begun allowing users to register through its mobile application. Drivers and passengers can now input their details into the system, indicating preliminary groundwork for future services.

The Uber app, which has been downloaded over 100 million times on the Google Play Store, now includes Nepal-specific registration options. Sample formats for required documents such as driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates (bluebook) are also available in Nepali language within the app.

Once all verification procedures are completed as per company guidelines, Nepali drivers will be able to list their vehicles on the platform.
Similarly, Uber has created a dedicated Nepal section on its official website, although the location settings currently appear to be in a testing phase. The rider application is also accessible in Nepal, where users can explore basic features and location settings.

On the passenger side, early promotional indicators, including discount notifications of Rs 15 and Rs 30, have also been observed in the app interface, suggesting pre-launch testing of incentives.

These developments point toward a possible near-term entry of Uber into Nepal’s ride-hailing market.
Founded in 2009 by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp, Uber operates as a global mobility platform connecting drivers and passengers through digital technology while taking a commission per ride. The company began operations in San Francisco in 2010 and expanded internationally in 2011.
Today, Uber operates in more than 10,000 cities across over 70 countries and has diversified into services including food delivery through Uber Eats, freight transport via Uber Freight, vehicle rentals, and corporate mobility solutions under Uber for Business.
