Uber Nepal Hype Sparks Fake Facebook Pages Claiming Partnership and Collecting Driver Documents

Kathmandu. As discussions over the possible entry of American ride-hailing platform Uber into Nepal continue, fake websites and Facebook pages claiming affiliation with the company have surfaced online, attempting to collect sensitive information from drivers, including driving licenses and vehicle bluebooks.

Investigations have found that a website operating under the domain “ubernepal.co” was registered on April 7, 2026, using the name “Uber Drive Nepal.” The website claims to be Uber’s official partner and driver activation center in Nepal.

However, several signs indicate that the platform is not officially linked to Uber. The website features AI-generated logos and appears to have been created using Vibe coding tools. It also claims that Uber is currently conducting “technology testing” through the platform.

The website asks drivers to submit their details through the WhatsApp number 9700004408. When contacted, the number responds through an AI-based automated system connected to Google Gemini, providing answers to users’ queries.

Industry observers note that multinational companies such as Uber do not collect sensitive driver information through personal WhatsApp numbers. Instead, they use official platforms and verified applications for onboarding processes. Additionally, the social media buttons displayed on the website do not link to any official pages.

Further investigation found that the same number was connected to a Facebook page named “Uber Driver Registration,” which first began posting content on May 6, 2026. The page also listed the email address “[email protected]” for contact purposes.

The use of an unofficial domain, personal Gmail accounts, and WhatsApp-based document collection has raised serious concerns over the authenticity of the platform.

Similarly, another Facebook page named “Nepal Uber Onboarding Hub” has been running boosted advertisements since May 11, claiming to be Uber’s official partner in Nepal. The page states that its office is located in Khusibu, Kathmandu.

When contacted through the phone number listed on the page, representatives identifying themselves as “Eco Incorporation Group Pvt. Ltd.” claimed that Uber services would officially launch in Nepal from July 1. However, they failed to provide a clear explanation when asked why driver onboarding was being handled through third-party pages instead of Uber’s official platform.

The page was also found using the email address “[email protected]” for driver communication.

Uber has not launched a separate onboarding website for any country so far and typically uses its official domain and mobile application for driver registrations. The company has also not formally announced operations in Nepal or disclosed any authorized local partner for onboarding activities.

Amid growing public interest over Uber’s possible arrival, cybersecurity concerns are increasing as fake websites and social media pages attempt to exploit drivers by collecting sensitive personal and vehicle-related information under the company’s name.
