Kathmandu. A total of 32 candidates have applied for the vacant chairperson position of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), the regulatory body overseeing the country’s telecommunications sector.
The applications were submitted within the deadline following a call for candidates issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications. The ministry has initiated the appointment process after the Authority’s entire board became vacant following an ordinance.
According to the ministry, a large number of aspirants have shown interest in leading the regulatory body, reflecting strong competition for the top post.
Along with the chairperson position, applications have also been received for key board member roles, including law, accounts and auditing, market management, and administration and technical positions.
The ministry has set strict eligibility criteria for leadership positions. For the chairperson, candidates must have at least a master’s degree from a recognized institution in fields related to telecommunications, including technical, administrative, market management, accounting, or legal areas, along with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
For member positions, a bachelor’s degree with at least seven years of relevant experience in the respective field is required. Applicants must also be between 30 and 65 years of age and must not hold permanent residency in any foreign country.
In addition, the ministry has required all chairperson applicants to submit a detailed professional business plan of 3,000 to 5,000 words that outlines proposals for institutional reform and regulatory improvements.
The ministry will review all applications and business plans, prepare a shortlist of qualified candidates, and proceed with interviews and presentations before making final recommendations for appointment.
