eSewa Announces Three-Day Hackathon Set for Sauraha, Bringing Together 63 Youth Innovators

Kathmandu. Payment service provider eSewa is set to organize the ‘eSewa Hackathon 2026’ in Sauraha, Chitwan, from 29 to 31 May, in collaboration with the international conservation organization World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

eSewa, which has been operating for the past 17 years, said the initiative aligns with its broader goals of expanding digital payment systems, promoting financial inclusion, and supporting youth-led innovation. Alongside its core services, the company has been engaged in initiatives related to innovation, youth empowerment, and social responsibility.

According to the company, the hackathon aims to foster a culture of innovation, encourage digital problem-solving, and promote youth entrepreneurship in Nepal’s growing technology ecosystem.

A total of 63 participants from 20 selected teams across the country will compete in the three-day event.

eSewa Chief Executive Officer Jagdish Khadka said the hackathon will help strengthen problem-solving skills among young developers while contributing to sustainable and technology-driven solutions.

“The eSewa Hackathon will bring developers, designers, and innovators onto a single platform to create digital systems and solutions related to cybersecurity and environmental sustainability,” Khadka said. “We believe this will enhance creativity among youth while supporting a secure fintech ecosystem and environmental protection.”

Participants will present prototypes of fintech-based designs and solutions with real-world applicability. The event is expected to encourage innovation that delivers both social and environmental impact.

During the competition, teams will receive mentorship from experts in fintech, cybersecurity, and information technology, allowing them to refine and strengthen their ideas.

The hackathon will conclude with awards for the best-performing teams. According to organizers, the first-place winner will receive Rs 300,000, followed by Rs 200,000 for second place and Rs 100,000 for third place.
