Deuba Claims Conspiracy Behind Fake Video Alleging Cash Found at His House

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has claimed that the allegation of money being found at his house is false. Appearing in public for the first time since the Gen-Z movement, Deuba alleged that a conspiracy was hatched against him by creating fake videos using old foreign footage and AI technology.

Deuba made the statement during an 18-minute speech at the central committee meeting of the Nepali Congress held at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Tuesday. After reading his written remarks, he said, “This is a fake video. This is a video brought from abroad. They say there’s two million or five million rupees in my house, this is all fake. It’s an old video, manipulated to frame me. All this talk about fake videos and conspiracies against me is circulating on social media and abroad.”

He further demanded an investigation, saying the so-called money found in his house was fabricated using AI to spread misinformation. “The video was stolen and edited from another country’s footage and pasted on mine,” Deuba said. “What’s it called… (other members helped him say ‘AI’) Yes, by using that. This is clearly a conspiracy against me. An investigation should be carried out soon. That is our request.”

During the Gen-Z movement on September 9, videos showing bundles of Nepali and U.S. currency allegedly found at Deuba’s Budhanilkantha residence went viral on social media.

Deuba’s secretariat had issued a statement earlier denying the videos, calling them misleading. Later, TechPanaconducted a fact-check on several viral videos claiming to show cash recovered from Deuba’s home. The investigation revealed that the videos were not AI-generated and were authentic.

Among six TikTok videos analyzed, four were verified as true, confirming that money was indeed found in both the courtyard and inside Deuba’s residence.
