Kathmandu: After spotting a misleading Facebook post about himself, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Mahabir Pun has urged people to report such accounts. In a post on Saturday, Pun asked users to remain cautious of pages that spread misinformation and incite society.
A page named “Miss Pabi 41” claimed that Mahabir Pun is joining the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) by posting an AI-generated photo. The post also asked users to “like in support and comment correctly or incorrectly” to boost engagement.
Sharing a screenshot, Minister Pun wrote, “Be careful! I have reported the Facebook page called Miss Pabi 41, and other friends should also be careful.”
Clarifying that he is not a member of any political party and is not someone who would join one, he said the claim is completely misleading.
The page, which has more than 86,000 followers, has been posting various misleading titles and AI-generated photos, mostly involving RSP President Ravi Lamichhane, to grow its reach.
The page appears to have been created by misusing the name of ticket collector and model Pavitra Sankhi (Miss Pabi). With Facebook’s content monetization features expanding, the trend of opening fake accounts and spreading misleading content for revenue has been increasing.
