पुस ९, २०८२ १९:२७
Kathmandu: Since last Monday night, a post on social media claiming that Labim Mall is giving away a car on the occasion of Christmas has gone viral. The Facebook page named Labiim-mall has claimed that it will give away a Toyota Land Cruiser to one of the commenters on the post.
However, a fact check by the TechPana Fact Check Desk confirms that this claim is false.
Claim
On Monday, December 22, 2025, at 10:59 PM, a post was uploaded on a Facebook page named Labiim-mall. The post reads, “LABIM MALL. To celebrate Christmas and New Year, we are giving away this incredible Toyota Land Cruiser to one lucky winner. It’s simple: Type @ and click ‘Add to Highlights’. If the button turns blue, you have been selected! The draw will take place on December 25 at 8:00 PM.” (Translated) The post includes four photos. One photo shows Labim Mall decorated for Christmas. Three other photos show a Land Cruiser car.
As of the time of writing, the post has received more than 12,000 reactions, over 28,000 comments, and more than 6,400 shares. See the original post, which could not be archived due to a Facebook ad link, and screenshots.

Investigation
After the post was widely shared, the TechPana Fact Check Desk found that the same page shared the exact same post again 12 hours later. The second post was uploaded on December 23, 2025, at 10:59 AM. This post received 266 reactions, 378 comments, and 310 shares.
In this post, users are instructed to type @ in the comment section and select the Highlights option. It claims that after selecting Highlights, users can participate in the giveaway. Thousands of Nepalis commented “Highlights” and shared the post widely.
Some users also posted positive reviews on the page. After noticing that the same content was posted repeatedly, the TechPana Fact Check Desk began a detailed investigation.
First, we checked whether Labim Mall had announced such a plan for Christmas. We visited the official website, labim.com.np, and reviewed its News and Events section. The most recent blog post on the website was related to International Women’s Day.

No information related to any Christmas giveaway or car distribution was found on the website.
We then checked Labim Mall’s official social media handles listed on the website, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

Photos of Labim Mall decorated for Christmas were found on these official pages. However, there was no post or announcement about any plan to give away a car.
To further verify, we contacted the phone number listed on Labim Mall’s official website. The response we received was clear. “We have not come up with any such plan to give away cars. This is being advertised to deceive through a fake page,” the Labim Mall administration said.
We then analyzed the Facebook page that claimed to be giving away the car. The page has more than 3,100 followers but has posted only three times. The page was created on March 17, 2025.

The page appears to have adopted a strategy to lure users during the Christmas period.
On Facebook, when a user types @ in a comment and selects the Highlights option, notifications about that post are sent to accounts connected to or followed by the user. This increases reach artificially. As a result, more users see the notification, comment, and share the post, helping it go viral.

To understand what type of links the page shares or how it may scam users, we sent a message to the page. However, no response has been received so far. This report will be updated if a response is received.
Based on multiple layers of verification, the claim that Labiim-mall will give away a Land Cruiser on the occasion of Christmas is confirmed to be false.
Claim
On the occasion of Christmas and New Year, Labiim-mall will give away a Toyota Land Cruiser to one lucky winner among those who comment on the Facebook post and add it to Highlights.
Claimant
An unauthorized Facebook page named Labiim-mall, falsely presenting itself as Labim Mall.
Fact
There is no information or plan related to a car giveaway on Labim Mall’s official website or official social media platforms. The Labim Mall administration has confirmed via phone that it has no such plan and that the advertisement is fake.
The Facebook page Labiim-mall was created on March 17, 2025, has only three posts, and uses incorrect spelling. The official Labim Mall page remains active. This confirms that the page is fake.
The @Highlights commenting method mentioned in the post appears to be a scam tactic. It is designed to generate mass notifications, make the post viral, and potentially steal user data through phishing links.
Conclusion
The claim that Labim Mall is giving away a Land Cruiser as a Christmas gift is false. The viral post originates from a fake Facebook page. This appears to be a phishing scam intended to lure users, amplify reach through deceptive tactics, and potentially steal personal information or compromise accounts.
