Kathmandu: Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) Nepal has completed “AI and Big Data” training targeting Nepali students. With the completion of the training, which was conducted from June 27 for six months, Samsung has announced that a new batch of “coding and programming” has started on Monday.
Certificates were awarded to 60 students who participated in the training during a program organized at Pulchowk Engineering Campus. The company stated that the training provided students with practical learning, industry-relevant knowledge, and hands-on experience in cutting-edge technology.
Addressing the program, Samsung Nepal Managing Director Chang Wook Jung described Nepali youth as the main driving force behind the country’s future innovation. He said, “Equipped with future-oriented skills is an investment in the country’s long-term progress. Through Samsung Innovation Campus, we are committed to empowering the youth to lead Nepal’s growing digital economy.”
The certificate distribution ceremony was attended by Tribhuvan University Rector Khadga KC, Institute of Engineering Dean Sushil B. Bajracharya, Pulchowk Campus Principal Sanjay Upreti, among others.
Samsung has been providing future-proof skills to youth since 2022 under its global CSR vision “Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People.” Under this initiative, training has been organized in Nepal in collaboration with the Institute of Engineering based on various curricula. During the training, students worked on projects to solve real-life challenges using technologies such as AI, Big Data, the Internet of Things, and coding.
It is said that basic knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and programming is required to participate in the newly launched coding and programming course. The curriculum focuses on practical skills and aims to enable students to solve problems using the skills and technology they have learned.
Students of IT, computer science, and other subjects can apply to Pulchowk Engineering College to participate in the Samsung Innovation Campus Nepal program. After that, the college itself selects students for the program, said Arun Timalsina, associate professor at the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering, Pulchowk Campus.
The selected students are trained based on the curriculum prepared by Samsung. He said that Samsung Innovation Campus has been helpful in developing students’ skills and also in supporting new innovations. According to him, students take a 350-hour course over six months.
