Scammers Use Fake ‘30,000 Dashain Bonus’ Offer To Hack Bank Accounts

Kathmandu: A phishing attack has been spreading on social media through a fake link claiming “Fill in the survey form and win a bonus of Rs 30,000.” Cybercriminals have misused the name of Nabil Bank to lure users and steal confidential banking details during Dashain.

The scam links carried slogans like “Nabil Bank – Big Dashain Uphaar” and “Join Nabil Bank Big Dashain Program, Win Cash Prizes and Special Dakshina.” When clicked, the link asked users to answer a few survey questions and then provide their bank username, password, and the one-time password (OTP) sent to their mobile. Once shared, these details allowed hackers to access users’ bank accounts.

The link also prompted users to forward it to friends through Messenger and WhatsApp, causing the fraud to spread rapidly.

Expressing serious concern, Nabil Bank issued a notice warning customers. The notice stated: “It has been found that misleading and false information such as ‘Fill in the survey form and get a bonus of Rs 30,000’ has been disseminated on social media and websites by misusing the name of Nabil Bank. Since Nabil Bank does not offer any such scheme or bonus, we request you not to believe in such propaganda.”

The bank has urged customers to rely only on its official website nabilbank.com and mobile banking portal nbankbynabil.nabilbank.com for authentic information.

For reporting or inquiries about suspicious activities, the bank asked customers to contact its service center at 01-5970015or email [email protected].
