Kathmandu: Nepal Telecom has increased the distribution capacity of its NT Fiber service based on Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology. According to the telecom’s latest data, FTTH distribution capacity across the country has reached 2.237 million.
As of mid-Ashar, the distribution capacity stood at 2.174 million lines. This capacity has been expanded by mid-Kartik of the current fiscal year. According to the Wireline and Customer Service Directorate of the telecom, a plan is being implemented to distribute a total of more than 2.5 million lines by constructing 4,965 fiber distribution cabinets (FDCs) across the country.
The telecom is currently working with the goal of providing FTTH services to 431 local bodies across the country. This includes six metropolitan cities, 11 sub-metropolitan cities, 236 municipalities, and 176 rural municipalities.
The Project Implementation Department (East and West) under the Directorate has set a target of constructing 214,344 FTTH ports and 453 FDCs across all seven provinces in the current fiscal year 2082/083. Out of this target, 62,976 lines have been expanded in distribution capacity by mid-October, which is 29.38 percent of the annual target.
According to the MIS report for the month of Asoj 2082 released by the telecom, the number of FTTH service customers has also increased. By mid-October, FTTH voice users had reached 397,505, data users had reached 364,914, and IPTV users had reached 72,611.
The company is distributing this service under the brand name “NT Fiber.” Nepal Telecom stated that the service is becoming popular due to its provision of voice, internet, and television services, as well as mobile data, through a single fiber connection.
